Top 5 Winter Racing Hats

Well, it’s been too long in between posts. Sorry! It’s a busy time of year.

So, we’re officially into winter, but that doesn’t mean we have to hibernate, wear track pants everywhere and stuff our faces with pizza! In fact there are still loads of things to do when the temperature drops… like the races!

I was lucky enough to attend the special Mothers’ Day Races at Flemington last month and I saw so many beautiful hats and fascinators when I was hunting around for one for myself, that I felt compelled to write a post.

For winter racing fashion, I like darker colours, textured fabrics and metallics. But don’t forget, white is also a really great colour for winter; it’s crisp and goes with everything! Eventually, that’s what I went with.

So, here are my top 5 head pieces for Autumn/Winter races:

1. Heather Mcdowall – ‘Sophie’ – $520

This fascinator is actually amazing, like ALL of Heather’s pieces, and is obviously the one I went with for my race day.

2. This one is from Heather Mcdowall’s brand new collection. In fact, it’s so new I don’t even know the name of it! Loving the copper – perfect for winter!

3. Victoria Novak – ‘Silver Lining’ – $880

4. Kookai – ‘Tristan Turban’ – $30

This will do more than just look good – it’ll keep your head warm too!!

5. Sarah J Curtis – Black Boater – $220

This hat is so classic. Plus, you’ll be able to wear it outside of the races!

Enjoy getting dolled up for the races 🙂

Top 5 Winter Wardrobe Essentials

I’m not sure where you are reading this from, but if you are anywhere near Melbourne, it’s starting to get bloody cold! I have already begun pulling my woollens out of storage and (sadly) clearing my wardrobe of all those strappy, summery dresses and cut-off denim shorts. *Sigh*.

But there is something to be said for winter fashion. I actually love it! Turtle necks, leather boots, fur coats… yes, please!

So, as the official first day of winter looms, I think it’s time to get our wardrobes ready, dames.

Here are my top 5 winter wardrobe essentials:

winter essentials

I tend to stick with a monochromatic colour scheme in winter; white, black & grey. It’s easy for those winter mornings when it’s so cold you need to get ready ASAP, because you’ve stayed under the covers in bed for a few extra minutes. This coat is super comfy, yet looks super stylish and goes with everything!

A grey marle skirt is a MUST for any winter wardrobe. Midi is the perfect length, as it’s good for work and play. If you don’t want to spend over $100, head to Zara – I found a great grey woollen skirt there the other day.

You definitely need to invest in a really good sweater for winter. Turtle or cowl necks are a good way to go.

Every winter wardrobe needs a decent pair of black, skinny jeans. You can wear them with a slouchy jumper for a casual day of shopping, or pair with a blouse and pointy heels and you’ve got yourself a stylish night out!

And finally, black ankle boots. This is something else I like to splurge on. I don’t like to have a heel that’s too high, so they’re more versatile. These boots are great to go casual, or to wear out; win, win!

The Weekend Wishlist #2

Having A Ball?

Tonight I have a ball (black tie event) for my day job. I didn’t have anything suitable to wear, as I’d already exhausted all my evening wear options at other events over the years. So, I’ve spent the last two weeks trawling the latest gowns and coordinates. Gee, I am LOVING the fashions at the moment.

No longer is it necessary to wear a long, puffy ball gown to a black- tie event. You can pick a stand-out midi dress or even a midi skirt and top and, as long as you pair it with some killer heels and accessories, your outfit will be a hit!

Anyway, here are my top 5 evening outfits:

1.

MANNING CARTELL – $549

This is actually the dress I’ve chosen to wear tonight because it can double for other events throughout the year. I’ll just be pairing it will a simple, black heel, black clutch and kick-ass ear cuff. I’ll post lots of instagram photos!

2.

AURELIO COSTARELLA – $169 for rental from Her Wardrobe

What I love about this dress is that you don’t have to buy it! Her Wardrobe is a designer dress rental service which seriously has one of the best collections I’ve ever seen! Plus the prices are really good and dry cleaning and everything is taken care of for you. Hassle free!

3.

NICHOLAS UPPER ECHELON BALL DRESS – $699 from Green With Envy

Yes please. This dress is so modern and fun and can definitely be worn again to a wedding, the races etc.. I’m all about the cost-per-wear!

4.

WHITE SUEDE CREPE MOON TOP $269 & FEATURE LENGTH SKIRT $349 (with Bardot heels for effect)

I put this little outfit together. The top is super cool with the harness-like straps and the skirt is a beautiful cut.

5.

ASOS HALTER NECK CUTOUT PEP HEM DRESS $94

If you’re a little more budget conscious (which, less face it, I should be!), this LBD is just stunning and a great, wearable length. I was seriously contending this one for tonight!

Let me know your favourite and be sure to check out my Instagram to see how I wear the dress tonight!
